The Adamawa State Police Command has detained Maryam Mohammed, a housewife, for allegedly abusing 7-year-old Angela David while she was in her care.
Mohammed allegedly struck the little girl with an electric line, causing injuries to her body as punishment for neglecting to do several household tasks.
The victim bears obvious signs of maltreatment from her head to her knees and back.
At the moment, the sufferer is receiving medical attention at the Bakari Bole Clinic, a Shagari low-cost facility located in Adamawa State's Yola-South Local Government Area.
The command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the occurrence on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, and stated that the suspect had been taken into custody and would appear in court tomorrow (Wednesday) to face justice in accordance with current laws.
"The police is hereby advising parents to be wary of giving out their children to others for keeps," Nguroje continued.
Little Angela claimed, "She fed me only once daily, so I was too weak to wash utensils on that fateful day," as she described her torture. She beat me all over my body with moringa tree strands and an electric cable.
Elsey David, the victim's mother, also commented on the situation, saying, "I gave her my daughter around eight months ago to help her with household tasks. It was under the condition that she enroll the child in school herself, but she chose not to.
