Ahmadu Bello University Wins Northwest Zone of 7 for 7 National Values Campus Debate 2024

 


Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, has emerged as the Northwest Zone champion of the 7 for 7 National Values Campus Debate 2024. ABU defeated the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, in a closely contested competition held on December 5, 2024, at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS), Kano State.  


With their victory, ABU secured a spot in the national grand finale, where champions from all zones will compete for the ultimate prize of N20 million naira.  



The event, marking the conclusion of the zonal stage of the competition, featured two main components: the debate competition and a capacity-building conference aimed at fostering national development through values-based education.  


The conference, facilitated by Strength Africa’s Managing Partner, Mr. Taiwo Adepoju, and Northern Region Director, Mr. Muyiwa Fasakin, brought together students from across the Northwest region. Participants engaged in interactive sessions focusing on national values, leadership, and personal development. Facilitators used innovative techniques to equip students with cognitive and behavioral skills essential for driving national progress.  


The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including:  


- Associate Professor Sanusi Yakubu Ahmed, Provost of KASCEPS  


- Dr. Umar Muhammad Sumaila, Deputy Provost, NCE  


- Comrade Baba Halilu, Honorable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, represented by Alhaji Idris Zakariyau Zaura, Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs  


The debate competition was adjudicated by a panel of esteemed judges:  


- Alhaji Rabiu Ado, Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Kano State  


- Dr. Hassan Ahmed Ismail, Senior Lecturer, KASCEPS  


- Hajia Aisha Abubakar Umar, Sub-Dean, School of Languages, KASCEPS  



With the zonal stages completed, the spotlight now shifts to the national grand finale, where the top teams from each zone will battle for the prestigious title and the N20 million prize.
